Ytre Hvaler - Survey 100m 10 Apr 2018

Beach:
Ytre Hvaler
Date of survey:
10 April 2018
Additional information
Was litter collected during this survey?
Yes
If yes, please specify:
For plastic/polystyrene pieces 0-2,5 cm (OSPAR ID 117) and string and cords (OSPAR ID 32) the 100m beach was divided in a transect. The transect size counted was 5x30m, which accounted for about 7,5% of the area. The number counted was multiplied with a factor of 13,33. A 15 m long pile of seaweed washed up on the beach was full of pieces of marine litter. The largest pieces were counted. Then we took a 3 m long (20%) transects where all the small pieces were counted. The number counted was multiplied with a factor of 5 (100%)
Did any of the following weather conditions affect the data of the surveys:
Wind
Did any of the following weather conditions affect the data of the surveys:
Ice
Did any of the following weather conditions affect the data of the surveys:
Exceptionally high tide
Did you find any stranded or dead animals?
No
Were there any circumstances that influenced the survey?
This year, the interest in beach cleaning has been enormously high in Norway. We discovered that someone had cleared the beach for large marine litter items before we got to do the OSPAR registration. The figures for large objects found and recorded on Outer Hvaler beach 2018 in the OSPAR database are therefore underestimated.
